RESIDENTS in Disley and Newtown are preparing to go to the polls for the second time in a week.
A parish poll will take place on Thursday May 8 to gauge residents views on whether they think Disley and Newtown should remain within the new Cheshire East unitary authority or become part of Stockport MBC or High Peak.

It follows a parish meeting last month, attended by 140 members of the public, when calls were made for the poll to take place in the parish.

The questions on which the poll is to be taken are:

• Should Disley and Newtown be transferred to Stockport Metropolitan Borough rather than Cheshire East?

• Should Disley and Newtown be transferred to High Peak Borough (and Derbyshire County) rather than either Stockport Metropolitan Borough or Cheshire East?

Voting will take place at Disley Community Centre and in the function room of The Swan public house, Newtown, between 4pm and 9pm.

Poll cards will not be issued.
