Orphans inspire student’s charity

A SUMMER spent helping care for orphans in Vietnam has inspired a Flagg teenager to continue fundraising.
Alexandria Le Carpentier joined Global Volunteer Network to take part in the Vietnam Youth Programme with other volunteers.
The volunteers played an important role as they brightened up the orphanages with paintings, wall hangings, bought fans for the bedrooms and mosquito nets for the babies’ cots as well as teaching basic English.
Ally, 15, a pupil at Lady Manners School in Bakewell, found it very hard to leave and has promised herself that she will go back, but in the meantime she is continuing to raise funds to help the children.
She has seen that every penny donated makes a huge difference to the children’s lives.
Ally is holding an ‘Eat So They Can’ style event on October 23 at Ivy House Farm, Flagg. She will cook native Vietnamese dishes taught to her by Mrs Hahn, the cook at the volunteer house and mother-figure to all the volunteers.
Recipes for the dishes will be available and hopefully stalls and music will provide extra entertainment.
Any donations of children’s clothes and toys for the kids or bric-a-brac that can be sold at future events would be greatly appreciated.
Ally is also having a stall on Bakewell Market on December 19, kindly supported by Derbyshire Dales District Council.
She would love to see as many people as possible at her fundraising events and would like to thank everyone who has supported her so far.
