Cup final nostalgia as Bucks went for cup
READER Peter Holme is a Buxton FC supporter and travels from his home in Preston, Lancashire, to support The Bucks.
He works at the National Football Museum which he described as "a football fan's dream job."
He has also just put together an exhibition on legendary footballer, Sir Tom Finney.
He said: "I try to keep the non-league flag flying at the Museum and educate everyone about the Unibond Premier."
Peter has submitted the photograph on the right taken at the Derbyshire Cup Senior Cup Final in 1966, played at the Baseball Ground, Derby.
Peter says: "It was probably taken by The Advertiser photographer. It shows all the young Buxton supporters at the game. I was 20 years old at the time and I am on the left hand side wearing glasses.
"I can only name one or two people on the photograph, but perhaps readers could identify more. All the young fans will be in their 50s and 60s now.
"I think that Buxton lost the final 1-0 to Heanor Town and I remember running across a very muddy pitch at the end of the game.
"Apparently, according to the Derbyshire FA, Buxton lost two more Derbyshire Cup finals to Heanor in 1969 and 1971, so they were definitely a bogey team."
Probably the most interesting fact is that this was the last final to be played at Derby County's ground before they became two legged finals in the following years.
"Of course this year the Cup Final is back at Derby County's ground, Pride Park, after a gap of 43 years and Buxton are again involved.
"We can only hope history will not repeat itself and this time Buxton will win."
