Neighbourhood policing in action
MEMBERS of a support group for stroke victims in New Mills were given a presentation on policing in their neighbourhood recently.
Officers from the New Mills and Hayfield Safer Neighbourhood Team visited the local Stroke Support and Social Club to chat to its members about a wide range of topics.
These included crime prevention advice, concerns over burglaries, unwanted visitors, nuisance phone calls and anti-social behaviour.
PC James Taylor and Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Lee Baker, from the team, also updated the group about policing priorities in the town and discussed the perception of youngsters in the area and what was being done to engage with them.
The visit, which took place at New Mills Volunteer Centre on Union Road on Tuesday, January 8, came after members of the group had raised some concerns about crime with the local Safer Neighbourhood team.
PC Taylor said: “The visit was a great opportunity for us to reach out to one of our local groups and to keep them fully informed about issues in our neighbourhood, what we are doing to address them and what opportunities there are for people to protect themselves from crime.
“We gave the group members advice on dealing with a wide range of issues and hopefully this provided a good deal of reassurance about policing in our area.”
