Hayfield’s Olympics

Hayfield May Queen Festival

Hayfield May Queen Festival

THE OLYMPICS will be coming to Hayfield later this year and girls living in the village are being invited to get involved.

The global sporting event, past and present, is the theme for this year’s Hayfield May Queen celebrations and girls living in the boundary of the village are being invited to the 2012 Royalty selections.

The positions available are May Queen (aged 12 to 16), Princess (eight to 11) and Rosebud (five to seven).

Organisers of the May Queen are trying to encourage more girls to enter for the royalty positions and are reassuring parents that being part of the Hayfield royal family does not involve endless commitment and rainy weekends, carnivals are a proven way of raising the girls’ confidence, making new friends and living the fairytale lifestyle.

A dress allowance from the May Queen committee is also provided.

Several local businesses support the event, including Cavendish Bridal House, who will be on hand to help the girls select their dream dresses and Chic Boutique, who are offering hair, make up and nails for the chosen royalty on May Queen day as well as a pre-day trial.

Entry forms are available from Shaws in the village and the closing date is Saturday, February 4 at noon.

The voting day and May Queen exhibition will be held on Saturday, February 18 at the Royal Hotel from 10am to 4pm, followed by a children’s disco from 7pm to 9pm when the results will be announced.

The committee added: “We would also like to take this opportunity to ask all village residents to turn out and vote for who they would like to represent their village – every vote is important and can make a difference, so please support the girls and cast your vote.

“The vote is available for anybody of school age and over and living within the Hayfield boundaries.

“Following the successful introduction last year we are continuing to offer a proxy vote system so if you would like to cast your vote but are unable to make it during the official voting day/time please contact Zoe on 0773 509 4166 or 07846 772568 to discuss the options available to you.”

This year’s Hayfield May Queen event will take place on Saturday, May 19.
