BANKING staff experienced first-hand the challenges faced by blind and partially-sighted people during a sponsored charity walk in Chapel-en-le-Frith.

Guide dog owner Victoria Needham, who is registered blind, enlisted work colleagues from the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) in Chapel, along with others from branches in Buxton and Macclesfield, to participate in the mile-long walk during Guide Dogs Week.

While wearing a blindfold or special glasses designed to simulate different visual impairments, the participants were set the challenge of completing the distance with the assistance of a guide dog.

High Peak Mayor Pat Jenner was on hand to get the walk underway, which is on target to raise £1,000 for the charity Guide Dogs, with RBS agreeing to match the final total.

Victoria said: “It was a great way to raise awareness of Guide Dogs and the vital work it does.”
