Mr Edward Smith : Obituary

M rEdward Smith,of Clay Cross,has died at home, aged 98. Born at Clay Cross and a lifelong resident of the area, he was an overhead crane driver at Clay Cross Works, retiring in 1978. Mr Smith was a familyman who was devoted to his wife, he loved cycling and dancing well in to his late 80s and was founder member of Autumn Days at Sharley Park Leisure Centre which was a club for keep fit and dancing. He leaves widow Lydia to whom he had been married to for 71 years, sons David and Ken, grandchildren Julie, Russell, Jayson and Martin, nine great-grandchildren, two step-greatgrandchildren, three great-greatgrandchildren and one step-greatgreat- grandchild. The service is due to take place at Clay Cross Methodist on Monday, December 3, at noon, followed by private family committal at the crematorium.
