A CHARITY auction in Chapel-en-le-Frith in memory of a popular teacher raised almost £5,500 to be shared between two very worthy causes.
Organised by the PTA of Chapel Primary School, and held in memory of Lisa Wilson, who sadly lost her battle with leukaemia earlier this year, the money has been split between the Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust, where Lisa was treated, and the school's library fund.
Headteacher Trevor Smith said: "The auction was brilliant and exceeded everybody's expectations. The pub was packed and I think people got caught up in the enthusiasm because of the two reasons why we were raising money."
The building work on the new library is due to be carried out during the summer and the PTA have so far raised almost £6,000 to pay for new books. It is hoped that by January the new library will be ready to be opened.
The auction had more than 100 prizes up for grabs, including tickets to concerts and shows, theme parks and days out, meals outs, beauty treatments, a pyjama party, children's party with disco, CDs, DVDs and a spa day.
There was also the chance to be headteacher for the day which saw Year 3 pupil Marie Copley taking on the role which included leading assembly and attending a meeting about the new library.
Mr Smith said: "Marie had a brilliant day. Beforehand she wrote to all the parents to explain who she was and what she was doing.
"She wanted two new rules for the day, extra play time as she said they never got enough time to finish their games and also said the children could come in their own clothes and staff in school uniform.
"She and her family really entered into the spirit of it," he added.
The school and PTA would like to thank Gareth and the Royal Oak for hosting the event and all those who donated lots and made bids.
