Still chance for teams to help celebrate new Oli Day
THERE'S still chance for football teams to enter the Oli Day tournament in memory of Peak sports star Oliver Everall, who died in a car accident last year.
Organisers want more teams from outside of Oli's home town of Chapel, as he played football in the High Peak for a long time and had many friends in Buxton, Hayfield and New Mills. Referees are also needed for the event on Sunday, May 4, from 12 to 6pm.
This first Oli Day will be a huge annual charity event and one which the organisers hope will continue for many years to come.
"We are holding the event at Chapel Town's Football ground Rowton Park. It's a fun day for all the family and has something for everyone," said organiser Andy Hill.
"There will be an adults six a side football tournament with 16 teams from across the High Peak competing.
"There will be plenty of other events including fairground attractions and rides for the kids, barbecues, beer tent, tombola, raffles and much much more. As this is a charity event we would like to raise as much money as possible, so tell all your family, friends and their friends to come along and help raise some money.
"And when the day's events have finished, the entertainment will continue long into the night with live music, karaoke and discos in the Market Place's public houses."
They need 16 teams with a minimum of six and a maximum of nine players per team.
The games will be eight minutes each way with roll-on-roll off substitutes. The tournament will start as a league format and progress to knockout in the latter stages.
