INVESTIGATIONS are continuing into the destruction of trees from a leafy gateway into Chapel-en-le-Frith.
The Advertiser reported last week how ten Norwegian Maple trees had been removed from one side of 'The Avenue', a road between the A6 Bowden Hall and A624 Ferodo roundabouts. The highway, which runs alongside a site currently being developed for a public house and business units, is ironically due to be renamed Foresters Way.

High Peak Borough Council, the planning authority, confirmed this week that the creation of a new road junction into the site had required the removal of four trees, but that the others fell outside of its planning control.

A spokesperson added: "It appears as if the trees concerned were planted in the highway verge, but we are currently awaiting confirmation as to whether the highway authority sanctioned their removal.

"We have also been in contact with Derbyshire County Council requesting that replacement trees be planted in the road verge once the present works are complete."
