PLANS to construct new traffic lights in the centre of Dove Holes have been labelled a "missed opportunity" by a parish councillor.
Derbyshire County Council (DCC) has unveiled a £130,000 scheme to construct the lights and pedestrian facilities at the junction of Station Road and Dale Road.

But while welcoming the decision to improve a "dangerous" junction with the A6, Chapel-en-le-Frith parish councillor Michael Harrison said: "Station Road, as a two-way, is a disaster, and these proposals are a missed opportunity for creating an almost one-way system.

"These proposals will increase the amount of traffic that will use that already narrow road.

"I think this is a missed opportunity and we should say they (DCC) should go back and consider creating a one-way system."

Cllr Harrison's comments were made during a discussion on the scheme at a recent meeting of Chapel-en-le-Frith Parish Council.

In response, Cllr Mike Smith urged caution: "I think we need to be careful. It is praiseworthy they are trying to do something about a dangerous junction; what we are saying is there is better ways of doing it."
