AN INNOVATIVE new service for residents of the High Peak who have a cancer diagnosis has been launched by Blythe House Hospice in Chapel-en-le-Frith.
In partnership with the national charity Macmillan Cancer Support, the Macmillan Living Well Service will offer a wide range of services from the recently completed Living Well Centre at Blythe House.

Cancer patients will be warmly welcomed by skilled and experienced healthcare professionals – and families and carers will have access to a range of physical and psychological services and support in its calm and relaxed environment.

Anne Cawthorn, Macmillan Living Well Specialist Practitioner, said: "The new service offers a flexible approach which aims to meet the needs of people who are coping with treatments, balancing work and family commitments, whilst trying to maintain their own well-being.

"We see this service as being a continuation of the existing services offered at Blythe House."

The service can be accessed by patients or professional referral – or just by informal drop-in at the centre on Tuesdays only between 10am and 4pm.

On referral, an appointment will be given to attend an initial assessment with a specialist nurse experienced in cancer rehabilitation.

The aim of assessment is to address any concerns and create an individual programme from the services available which include:

• Nurse Assessment and ongoing key worker support

•Specialist Consultant and Palliative Medicine Clinic

• Physiotherapy

• Information about disease and treatments

• Social and Welfare Rights support

• Spiritual and religious support

• Counselling for adjustment, relationship and body image

• Family therapy and young people's counselling

•Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy for anxiety, panic, phobias and depression

•Complementary therapies including aromatherapy, massage, reflexology and Reiki healing

• 12 week rolling educational programme

• Headstart

• Groups including a Newly Diagnosed Group, Art and Creative Therapy Group, Complementary Therapy and Mindfulness Meditation Groups.
