PLANS for new industrial units in Chapel-en-le-Frith – which could create employment opportunities for 50 people – have been given the green light.
High Peak Borough Council's Development Control Committee voiced its approval for the development at the Ray Butler & Sons' Central Station Yard, off Eccles Road.

The proposal will see two industrial units constructed, one consisting of seven small, two-storey business starter units, on an area currently occupied by a vehicle repair garage.

Parking spaces for 33 vehicles will be provided.

Cllr Michael Harrison said: "I had serious concerns about this site because it is currently a mess, and it would certainly benefit from being redeveloped along the lines of this development."

A proposal to reprioritise the junction with Eccles Road and Midland Road, giving priority to traffic flowing along Midland Road, was removed following objections.

Cllr Harrison added: "I do not think public safety is being served by increasing the speed of traffic along Midland Road."

The approved units will be available for Class B1 or B2 usage - business or general industry - and cannot be used for the maintenance or servicing of HGV vehicles.
