POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a robbery at Chinley after a woman was assaulted and had her car stolen from the car park at the Conservative Club on Lower Lane.
The 32-year-old woman had driven from Stockport to Chinley and parked in the car park.

As she locked the car and began to walk away from it she was approached from behind and her keys and handbag were stolen. Seconds later she was pushed to the ground and her car was driven away.

DC Darren Gyte, who is investigating the crime, said: "This is an extremely unusual crime in what is normally a very low crime area. Fortunately the woman was not seriously hurt but was very shocked by what happened to her."

Three men are thought to have been involved in the offence which happened at 9pm on Monday, September 15 .

Police believe the woman may have been followed from Stockport by criminals from outside the Chinley area who were intent on stealing the VW Golf car.

Anyone who has any information that would help the police enquiry should contact DC Gyte on 0845 123 33 33 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
