A CHUNK of Chapel-en-le-Frith's history has entered the digital age thanks to the efforts of local researchers.
Residents Guy and Beryl Martin have spent months transcribing the St Thomas Becket Monumental Index and Inscriptions, as well as those at Town End Methodist Church.

Over 2,000 inscriptions have been detailed, from the original hand-typed survey during the late 1980s, done by the late Peggy Bellhouse and her team at St Thomas Becket, and Winifred Waterhouse and her team at the Methodist Church.

Stephen Hawley has indexed the later memorials and has photographed the later gravestones.

These records, along with the names from Chapel and Dove Holes war memorials, have now been placed onto a CD, which is on sale at both churches, priced at £6.

Cllr Martin said: "There has already been interest from family history researchers locally and in Australia, despite the short time the project has been completed."

The CD can also be purchased by post from VBG Martin, 23A Eccles Road, Chapel-en-le-Frith, SK23 9RP, priced at £7.50 inclusive of UK post and packaging.

A donation from each CD sold by post is being made to the churches.
