NEARLY every letter in the Buxton Advertiser last week mentioned the mess made of Buxton market Place by so-called council improvement schemes.
Making the Market Place a safe environment for all who use it now has vital importance with the opening of the new Sainbury's store on November 9.

Instead of addressing this top priority issue for the residents of Buxton, the council is now promot
ing a new grandiose scheme which is even more ludicrous than their previous efforts.

The proposed development site fronts a road which is already jammed for most of the day by stationary traffic in an area where nobody lives, so creating yet more vehicular traffic.

There is a huge empty council yard in Higher Buxton which has been redundant since the council pulled their support for Buxton Street Market and stopped storing market stalls there.

This site is surrounded by thousands of houses within easy walking distance. It could easily accommodate several large non food retail outlets. Don't we already have more than enough supermarkets in Buxton?

So councillors, can you please call a halt to the development of the soul-less Spring Garden's centre which is just a clone of every other town shopping centre.

Then start bringing trade back to higher Buxton by making it safe for shoppers to use. There are now nearly 40 empty shops in Higher Buxton ruined by previous council planning decisions and lousy environmental schemes.
